Electroencephalogram (EEG)
An EEG is a special test used to evaluate brain wave activity. With this test, a neurologist can most times determine the type of seizure your child may have if it is abnormal. The EEG is one of the main diagnostic tests for evaluating seizures. It can also diagnose other neurological problems as well. This test is painless and utilizes electrodes (small, flat, metal discs). It cannot measure intelligence or diagnose mental disorders.
At Sunrise Pediatric Neurology, we offer EEG testing for our patients that require it. EEG tests offered are:
- Routine EEGs (a test lasting approximately 1 hour)
- Ambulatory EEGs (a test placed and taken home for 1-2 days)
- Prolonged EEGs (a test lasting longer than 1 hour)
